Putting off the adoption conversation worked for about 6 months, but soon realized that when the "big Man in heaven" puts something on your hearts, He does not stop until it is complete (Phillipians 1:6). We both had not mentioned adoption again for 6 months when it came up in conversation one night and we soon realized that we still had this lingering place in our hearts to adopt. At this point, we decided to research agencies and submit an application. We both decided on an agency (Dillon International) and submitted a request for an application. This first application was pretty simple, asking the basic
questions about our life (similar to a job application).
We were also asked to complete a Pre-Adoption Workshop. The workshop was very informative about our agency policies and the stages of the adoption process. This part of the application took about 1 day to complete and get back in the mail. Anybody who knows me at all, knows that when I get excited and passionate about something, I get the ball rolling and rolling very quickly! :)
After about 3 weeks, we received an email back from the agency notifying us that we had been "initially" approved and they would like for us to move on with Application Part 2 (the real humdinger!) Over that 3 week waiting period, we were both having anxiety about the process and if we were fully ready to move forward. We just encouraged each other to pray about it and see if we could come to peace with our decision. When you spend your whole life making plans and saving money for "things" in the future and God throws a curve ball at you, it is hard to know when and if you want to swing. Unfortunately, we were not able to be at peace with moving forward at that time and felt that God was telling us to wait before continuing. (We will continue sharing our story throughout this week and the coming weeks)
